Are You Making This Backwards Decision?

In the Primal Potential Masters Club, we read a book together each month. For September we’ve been reading Relentless by Tim Grover. Grover is a performance coach for some of the world’s best athletes including Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.

His services don’t come cheap. In the book he talks about how some athletes aren’t willing to spend $10,000 on his services. Grover remarked, “You aren’t willing to spend $10,000 to ensure you keep making $10,000,000??

If you’d rather listen to this blog than read it, please click here

It sounds a little absurd to think about it that way – most of us would be very willing to spend $10K to make $10 million.

However, we make these same kinds of backwards decisions, often with much bigger losses, every single day.

We aren’t willing to make the investments required to get what we want.

Whether those investments are money, time, effort or discipline, too often we aren’t willing to pay the price to get or keep the things we want.

We’re not willing to make a disciplined choice to reach our goal.

We’re not willing to keep a promise we make to ourselves to get something we really want.

We’re not willing to invest in a coach that will help us get healthier, happier and improve the quality of our lives.

What if an investment in yourself – a financial investment or even an investment of time, energy or discipline – had the power to change your entire life?

Let me be very clear: it does. It does have the power to change your life.

There are countless investments that can change your life if you commit to the process of change & stop making excuses & exceptions.

The FLFT can be one of those investments.

Yes, it’s $497.
Yes, it’s 12 weeks.
Yes, it’s happening in the midst of Halloween & Thanksgiving.

But the skills you’ll build in the 12 weeks and the awareness & effort you’ll bring have the power to make you happier, healthier, more confident and more in control of every area of your life.

Registration closes tomorrow. If you’re on the fence, it’s time to make your choice.

We kick off on Sunday October 1st so now is your chance to be a part of it! I really hope to get a chance to work with you this fall! It can absolutely change your life!

After a really rough day yesterday, I made it to the gym today. I’m feeling pretty sick to my stomach but I knew my body needed to move & work. While I’m on the injectable hormones, I’m supposed to avoid high impact activities like running and jumping. Go figure today’s workout called for running & double unders. No worries though, I let my coach know what is up and modified.

5 Rounds for Time:

14 cal Airdyne bike

8 cals ski erg

9 squat snatch

I didn’t want to start & I didn’t want to push through all 5 rounds, but I was so glad when I did! I’m going to keep listening to my body and focusing more on quality of movement than intensity.

On the food front:

I’m really happy that I’ve been able to eat despite feeling sick. After this morning’s workout I had my cabbage salad bowl (half the cabbage) with walnuts, eggs, bacon and Primal Kitchen Chipotle Lime Mayo.

A few hours later I snacked on some of the pork rinds I got from Thrive Market. I got the Jalapeno Cheddar ones from 4505 Meats.

I definitely prefer not to snack, but I’m finding it helps a bit with my nausea. I also had some of the salted macadamia nuts I got in my Thrive Market order.

Dinner will be crazy simple: an omelet with bacon & goat cheese. I love simple.

393: Don’t Believe Everything You Think

393: Don’t Believe Everything You Think

One of the most destructive ways to hold yourself back & stay stuck in fear and excuses is to believe every thought you think.

Do not believe everything you think.

In today’s impromptu episode, I’m sharing a particularly challenging experience I had this past weekend & how it showed me a huge opportunity to stop believing my thoughts.

My thoughts were creating fear and making a tough situation nearly impossible.

If you find yourself stuck in delay, doubt, excuses and inconsistencies, this will be a powerful episode for you!

Inaction Fuels Fear

What a day yesterday was. I learned so much about my own fear & inaction that Sunday evening is actually the topic of tomorrow’s podcast (episode 392). You won’t want to miss it, that’s for sure! I sent out a super quick voice note about it this morning to those on the Primal Potential VIP email list, but, we’ll be diving deeper tomorrow.

If you’d rather listen to this blog than read it, please click here.

Since I’m kind of in “recover mode” from yesterday’s craziness, I’m going to keep this really short:

Inaction fuels fear. Inaction creates fear. Delay fosters doubt and makes change harder than it needs to be. It makes your journey to change longer than it needs to be and creates misery & uncertainty along the way.

Feel the fear but don’t feed it.

We feed our fears with our negativity. We feed our fears when we don’t take action or when we give in to excuses and exceptions. Sometimes we literally feed our fears with food.

We feed our fears when we wait. When we put things off. When we agree to “I’ll start tomorrow”.

Today, challenge yourself to identify what you want and take decisive action.

Don’t wait. Don’t talk yourself out of it. Just do the work. Move in the direction of your goals. Identify one thing you can do & make it happen.

Yeah, I know this is so vague but it’ll be a lot more clear and specific tomorrow in episode 392.

I didn’t workout today. While I’m all about the priority of self-care when life feels hard, sometimes rest is more valuable than stress (physical stress, I mean).

I did go for a walk to enjoy the warm day, but I consciously chose to skip the gym.

My body was adjusting to the meds I took last night (more detail on this in tomorrow’s podcast) and I just physically wasn’t well enough to get through the workout.

In fact, I had to sit in my car for 20 minutes to feel well enough to go into the grocery store! Definitely not a workout day but I’ll be back at it tomorrow!

On the food front:

I had a heavy dose of nausea today so I didn’t have anything until about noon when I whipped up my cabbage salad bowl with bacon, eggs, walnuts, cabbage and Primal Kitchen Chipotle Lime Mayo.

My order from Thrive Market came & it was perfect! Since I had ordered a bunch of different flavors of Miracle Noodles (they aren’t really noodles), I was able to make chicken soup! How perfect!

I had previously ordered the Thrive Market brand bone broth so I fried up the miracle noodles in some grass fed butter & then tossed them in the bone broth. So totally winning! What a happy camper I am!

To Make Things Better, Stop Making Them Worse

Let’s decide right now that this coming week will be the best week you’ve had in a long time.

And, with only 98 days left until 2018, let’s make the rest of 2017 the very best of it.

Let’s all set a new standard for taking care of ourselves. Right now. It starts today. No matter what choices you’ve made so far today, it’s starts right now.

If you’d rather listen to this blog than read it, please click here.

Before you can make things better, you’ve got to stop making them worse.

Let’s take a minute or two to brainstorm a few of the most significant or most common ways you make things worse for yourself.

Think about it this way: if you can classify your choices as ones that move you towards your goals and ones that don’t, what are the choices, habits or excuses you use most often that don’t move you towards your goals?

Here are a few of the most common ones I see & hear:

Telling yourself that you’ll try harder or try again at some future point. You’ll eat cleaner starting Monday. You’ll start taking care of your health when your kid’s soccer season is over. Or on October first.
Committing to a set of diet rules because you read it somewhere. How many times have you tried that approach & failed? When you choose all or nothing (again), you’ll very likely end up where you’ve ended up each time before: surrendered & inconsistent.
Justifying indulgences. Instead of considering if what you’re doing is working & creating the results you want, you justify indulgences moment by moment because every day offers up an opportunity to break from what you want most. You’re drinking because it’s Friday night, having dessert because it was a stressful day or celebrating the weekend with choices you always regret come Monday.

You can’t make things better until you stop making them worse.

This requires that you be honest with yourself about how you’re making them worse instead of just jumping on someone’s bandwagon solution that has nothing to do with your problem!

So many times we try to make change by implementing a new solution instead of fixing the problem that is standing in the way of every previous solution we’ve tried.

Think about it: you commit to a new diet plan without addressing the fact that you talk yourself out of follow through on every other one you’ve tried.

Instead of getting excited about a new solution, how about you invest your energy in understanding the ways you’re holding yourself back and starting to do the work there?

Please don’t:

Wait until you’re at a breaking point to make a major change.

Think that a new solution is more valuable than paying attention to the underlying problem.

It’s not.

Identifying & overcoming the underlying problem is where true change originates from.

It’s not about willpower or self-disclipline. It’s not about finding the right set of food rules.

It’s about understanding how & why you’re holding yourself back. That’s your work. That’s where your change begins. Not in your pantry.

It’s not easy work – especially for your ego – but it’s both transformative & sustainable.

It’s honest, it’s direct and it’s facing the reality of our behavior instead of the fantasy of someone else’s.

It’s the essence of the work within the Fat Loss Fast Track.

Through 12 weeks of coaching, we aren’t focused on using discipline to execute rules.

We are looking at how and why you talk yourself into choices you wish you didn’t make.

We are looking at what foods, in what combinations, at what times make YOU feel your best.

It’s about YOU.

I could sit here and write about how powerful it is. I could share a bunch of quotes from current & past clients about how it’s transformed their bodies, minds, careers & finances.

I’m not going to & I’ll tell you why: because I don’t want to convince you to join the Fat Loss Fast Track.

I want the final group of 2017 to be filled with people who want to be there. With people who aren’t interested in any more quick fixes (that are never quick). With people who are ready to do the lasting, necessary work for change.

I want to wake up every morning of our 12 weeks together and help you generate momentum & enthusiasm for creating your best life, choice by choice.

I want to celebrate the arrival of 2018 with a crew of people who have spent the last 12 weeks building a foundation for their healthiest, best lives.

I honestly cannot wait for the October 1st kickoff and I really only have two questions:

Do you want to change?

Are you ready for an approach that is about you?

I’d love the opportunity to work closely with you over the next 12 weeks. Registration will close on Wednesday September 27th so I can get all the necessary info to everyone before our Oct 1st kick off.

You can register here: https://primalpotential.com/fallfatloss/

You can get all the details here: https://primalpotential.com/391/

I definitely won’t twist your arm but if you’re excited about the opportunity to make permanent change and create a better life, let’s just freakin’ do this!

393: Don’t Believe Everything You Think

392: Missing Out & Dealing With Temptation

I absolutely love this episode. A long-time client of mine had a big mindset breakthrough recently & today I’m sharing it with you.

For most of her life, this client has indulged almost every day. Chocolate here, ice cream there, she never wanted to miss out on a treat.

Even though she wanted to lose weight & get healthy, she didn’t want to miss out on indulgences – and that’s how she say giving them up – missing out.

We talked about a lot of different strategies over many months of work – focusing on what’s really worth it & what’s not, indulging with less frequency – we tried lots of things.

However, her story remained the same: I love treats and I don’t want to miss out on them.

Recently, she decided to change her story. In today’s episode I’m sharing her breakthrough as well as my own perspective shift.

If you feel like you’re inconsistent and struggle to resist temptation, this episode is for you!
