548: 3 Strategies to Get Out of Your Own Way

You know what to do but you aren’t consistently doing it. You’re super clear on the problem, but you aren’t holding yourself accountable to taking action on creating the solution.

You think about it all the time. You wish things were different. Maybe you’re frustrated or sometimes feel disappointed in yourself and your choices.

I have those conversations every single day. This week in particular, I had about dozens of phone calls with current clients and there were 3 strategies that kept coming up again and again. These are strategies to help you get out of your way that make change dramatically (and immediately) easier!

If you feel like you’re usually the primary thing holding you back – this episode is totally for you!

Time is running out to register to work with me – every single day – for 12 weeks to kick off 2019. To learn more about the 12 Weeks to Transformation program, click here. To register, follow this link.

Refusing Fear

Episode 543 of the podcast was one of the most popular ones I’ve done to date. In it, we talked about insecurity, fear of judgement and refusing to restrict your life to the boundaries of your fears.

If you’d rather listen to this blog than read it, please click play. Otherwise, keep on reading below.

I shared that one HUGE thing I’m working on is refusing to submit to fear.

I don’t want “fears” (or even more benign thoughts) about what others think of my body to influence what I wear, for example.

I don’t want fears of what people might think to stop me from getting up to dance at a bar.

I don’t want fears of other people’s opinions to limit what I say or share in my life or in my business. Here’s what I’ve been telling myself, over and over again as I practice this:

The difference between something I’m afraid of and something I’m excited about is the perspective I choose.

The difference between an adventure and an obstacle is my attitude.

I got a super-major chance to practice what I preach this week.

I was recently accepted into an elite (and very expensive) business mastermind. The only thing holding me back from joining was fear. The only thing that kept me from immediately accepting the invitation was fear.

  • Fear of spending such a huge sum of money
  • Fear of going way outside my comfort zone
  • Fear of commitment
  • Fear of not fitting in

Focused on the fears, risks and my discomfort, I told the mastermind host that I needed to think about it and I’d email him the following day.

About 3 minutes after I said that, I got honest with myself and sent him the below email (make sure you’ve allowed images for this email so you can see it.)

The subject line of the email was: I’m in. Here’s part of what I wrote:

When I told him I’d think about it, I was buying myself time to consider all those fears. All those risks and nerves.

BUT: that’s not who I want to be. I don’t want to let my fears influence my actions.

I don’t want to continue to limit my life to the boundaries of my fears and worries.

The difference between something I’m afraid of and something I’m excited about is the perspective I choose.

The difference between an adventure and an obstacle is my attitude.

The difference between you being stressed about weight loss and excited about it is your attitude.

The difference between me being nervous about buying a new property and excited is my attitude.

The difference between me being nervous about my book launch and over-the-moon excited is the story I tell myself about it, my perspective.

The difference between me being embarrassed by my blinking llama onesie (that I wore to a party last night) and thrilled by it is the perspective I choose.

I’m not waiting until 2019 to refuse fear. I’m not waiting another minute to choose a perspective of adventure and opportunity. I’m doing it now.

This is a HUGE part of my work with my clients – helping them refuse to indulge the story of their pasts & their fears and helping them get EXCITED about

This past Thursday, I opened up registration to my Winter 12 Weeks to Transformation to folks who were on the wait list. Today, I want to share with you the webinar I did with them to explain and explore how & why the 12 WT is different from what you’ve tried in the past, how it’s NOT a diet and how we can finally leave the struggle behind.

I’d love to invite you to watch it! Here’s the link and the password is w2019. If you want to cut the crap and stop playing small, this is absolutely worth an hour of your time!

I’d love to the opportunity to work with you this winter IF you watch the webinar and think it’s an amazing fit for you!

‘Calm’ Is The Compass

The other day I came across an inspiring and instructive quote from Abraham Hicks.

The closer you are to alignment with what you want, the calmer it feels.

If you’d rather listen to this blog than read it, please click play. Otherwise, keep reading below.

Here’s why I say it’s instructive:

Think about where you lack a sense of calm or peace in your life.

Is it related to your body? Your health? Your food choices? Your fitness? Finances? Relationship? Home? Career?

Instead of seeking a specific outcome such as weight loss or a different relationship, seek to make choices that make you feel calm. Seek to avoid choices that create tension, frustration, disappointment or regret.

I don’t know about you, but overeating doesn’t make me feel calm. It makes me feel tired and sluggish, but that’s not the same as calm.

Skipping workouts doesn’t make me feel calm.

Oversleeping and procrastinating don’t make me feel calm.

When you’re making the right choices for your life and your priorities, you will find a sense of calm.

When and where you lack that sense of peace and calm, you know where you have work to do.

The closer you are to alignment with what you want, the calmer it feels.

541: Let Go of the Problem

541: Let Go of the Problem

Have you ever heard of the first rule of holes?

I’m happy to share it with you. The first rule of holes is: stop digging.

If you want to create a change in your life, the first thing you have to do is change the way you think. If you want to create a solution in your life, you have to stop arguing for, justifying and reinforcing the problem.

In today’s episode, we’ll talk through examples and strategies. Don’t miss it! If you have follow up questions, be sure to leave a comment here on the show notes page, email me or direct message me on instagram!

Episode 539: How I Coach Myself Through Temptation & Apathy

In October 2019, our relationship with Thrive Market changed. They decided to put their marketing dollars in avenues outside of podcasting but we still think they’re a good choice if you’re looking to save money on health & personal care products.

Here is the wild-caught canned salmon I like from Thrive Market and here’s the coconut flour I use as part of the salmon cakes recipe

534: Binge Eating & the Holidays

I love when you ask questions and suggest topics for the podcast. You know why? Because that’s the whole point of the Primal Potential podcast! The entire goal is to help you help yourself! This is your podcast and my sole objective is to help you help yourself live a happier, healthier life! If you have questions or are struggling, be sure to let me know so we can begin to work through them on the show!

Just the other day on Instagram, I asked what questions or topics you’d like to hear about on the podcast. A ton of of you submitted questions and I’ve divided them into two episodes.

Today we’re talking about travel, binge eating and the holidays. In episode 535 we’ll be less on the emotional side and more on the practical side, addressing questions about nutrition, hormones, stomach acid, money and more!

Make sure to let me know if there’s something I can do to help you!
