546: Don’t Get It Twisted

546: Don’t Get It Twisted

Not long ago, someone asked me if I’d provide transcripts for the 12 WT weekly challenge webinars. Then, I got a similar question about the format of the 12 Weeks to Transformation. My answer to both requests was the same…

Here’s the deal, my friend. We aren’t here to learn. We’re here to change. There’s a really big difference in those two approaches and many people follow the familiar “learning” path, failing to realize that it’s not the same as the “changing” path.

We’re diving into that in today’s episode of the podcast and I’ll be sharing how I coach clients through the changing process (not the learning process) in my 12 Weeks to Transformation groups.

Refusing Fear

Episode 543 of the podcast was one of the most popular ones I’ve done to date. In it, we talked about insecurity, fear of judgement and refusing to restrict your life to the boundaries of your fears.

If you’d rather listen to this blog than read it, please click play. Otherwise, keep on reading below.

I shared that one HUGE thing I’m working on is refusing to submit to fear.

I don’t want “fears” (or even more benign thoughts) about what others think of my body to influence what I wear, for example.

I don’t want fears of what people might think to stop me from getting up to dance at a bar.

I don’t want fears of other people’s opinions to limit what I say or share in my life or in my business. Here’s what I’ve been telling myself, over and over again as I practice this:

The difference between something I’m afraid of and something I’m excited about is the perspective I choose.

The difference between an adventure and an obstacle is my attitude.

I got a super-major chance to practice what I preach this week.

I was recently accepted into an elite (and very expensive) business mastermind. The only thing holding me back from joining was fear. The only thing that kept me from immediately accepting the invitation was fear.

  • Fear of spending such a huge sum of money
  • Fear of going way outside my comfort zone
  • Fear of commitment
  • Fear of not fitting in

Focused on the fears, risks and my discomfort, I told the mastermind host that I needed to think about it and I’d email him the following day.

About 3 minutes after I said that, I got honest with myself and sent him the below email (make sure you’ve allowed images for this email so you can see it.)

The subject line of the email was: I’m in. Here’s part of what I wrote:

When I told him I’d think about it, I was buying myself time to consider all those fears. All those risks and nerves.

BUT: that’s not who I want to be. I don’t want to let my fears influence my actions.

I don’t want to continue to limit my life to the boundaries of my fears and worries.

The difference between something I’m afraid of and something I’m excited about is the perspective I choose.

The difference between an adventure and an obstacle is my attitude.

The difference between you being stressed about weight loss and excited about it is your attitude.

The difference between me being nervous about buying a new property and excited is my attitude.

The difference between me being nervous about my book launch and over-the-moon excited is the story I tell myself about it, my perspective.

The difference between me being embarrassed by my blinking llama onesie (that I wore to a party last night) and thrilled by it is the perspective I choose.

I’m not waiting until 2019 to refuse fear. I’m not waiting another minute to choose a perspective of adventure and opportunity. I’m doing it now.

This is a HUGE part of my work with my clients – helping them refuse to indulge the story of their pasts & their fears and helping them get EXCITED about

This past Thursday, I opened up registration to my Winter 12 Weeks to Transformation to folks who were on the wait list. Today, I want to share with you the webinar I did with them to explain and explore how & why the 12 WT is different from what you’ve tried in the past, how it’s NOT a diet and how we can finally leave the struggle behind.

I’d love to invite you to watch it! Here’s the link and the password is w2019. If you want to cut the crap and stop playing small, this is absolutely worth an hour of your time!

544: 3 Big Changes I Just Started Making

544: 3 Big Changes I Just Started Making

There are 3 things I’ve just begun practicing to improve both my health and my happiness. In today’s episode, I’m sharing them with you and giving some examples of what the practice looks like in my daily life.

I’m already convinced that these will improve my relationships AND increase my productivity and success!

I’d love to know if any (or all) of these 3 resonate with you OR if there are other changes you’re working to incorporate into your life and how I can help!

541: Let Go of the Problem

541: Let Go of the Problem

Have you ever heard of the first rule of holes?

I’m happy to share it with you. The first rule of holes is: stop digging.

If you want to create a change in your life, the first thing you have to do is change the way you think. If you want to create a solution in your life, you have to stop arguing for, justifying and reinforcing the problem.

In today’s episode, we’ll talk through examples and strategies. Don’t miss it! If you have follow up questions, be sure to leave a comment here on the show notes page, email me or direct message me on instagram!

Episode 539: How I Coach Myself Through Temptation & Apathy

In October 2019, our relationship with Thrive Market changed. They decided to put their marketing dollars in avenues outside of podcasting but we still think they’re a good choice if you’re looking to save money on health & personal care products.

Here is the wild-caught canned salmon I like from Thrive Market and here’s the coconut flour I use as part of the salmon cakes recipe

You’re Not My Mood Maker

There is something I say to myself every day, in an effort to coach myself. It’s something I remind myself of in an attempt to live happier and healthier days.

If you’d rather listen to this blog than read it, please click the play button below. Otherwise, just keep on reading!

I’m not immune to hard moments. Every single day, something (often many things) challenges me. Just the other day I was driving home and had to pause and ask myself, “What the heck is wrong?! Why am I feeling so down?

Without fail, things happen that frustrate me, ruffle my feathers, stress me out and everything in between.

That’s when I turn to this reminder:

I am my own mood maker.

My boyfriend is not my mood maker. My workload isn’t my mood maker. Traffic, long lines at the grocery store or inconsiderate comments people make – those things are NOT my mood makers.

But they used to be.

A looming deadline would “make me” stressed. An insensitive comment would “make me” sad.

I felt out of control because all these things outside me were constantly sending me in different emotional directions.

On top of that, I’d let my emotions dictate my decisions. When I was feeling down, I’d mentally check out. I’d tell myself that “I just can’t deal” with self-care or discipline.

That perspective led to endless inconsistency (and epic mood instability).

Fortunately, I’ve changed my perspective.

I am my own mood-maker. So are you.

Yes, we can continue to act as though we are a victim of things that happen to us. We can let traffic, rude emails, flight delays and insenstive comments dictate our emotions.

OR: we can choose to be in control. We can choose to take control in any moment and shift our perspectives.

This is something I practice every, single day. That word, practice, is critical because this isn’t just a decision I make. It’s a practice. It requires my participation. I have to do something.

The other day, that day I was feeling really down on my drive home, I said to myself, “I am my own mood maker, so what am I going to do to turn this around?

I started by intentionally re-directing my perspective from what is wrong or undone to what is right and wonderful. I started to think about things like the fact that I was safe in my car. My family is safe. I am healthy. I have food in my fridge and a roof over my head. I have people who love me. I am okay.

It helped a little, but I still felt a little funky.

Then, I turned to an external tool: music.

I put on a song that gets me dancing and singing. I blasted it as loud as the volume would go. Then I chose a second upbeat song and a third.

I could feel the shift happening.

From a brighter state of mind, I asked myself, “What do I need to let go of?

Those things that ruffle my feathers – I can choose to let them go. I don’t have to continue to engage with them. They won’t matter in 10 years so I can choose to release them right now.

So can you. As you go through your day and your week, remind yourself that YOU can be your mood-maker.

Start to PRACTICE choosing this control.

Every bad mood or stressful moment is your next chance to practice!! Lots of stress? Lots of hard things in life? That great news is that you have more chances to practice!!
