620: It’s Not Your Plan, It’s Your Perspective

Jun 25, 2019

Hi, friends! It’s Elizabeth here, and I am so excited to share Episode 620 of Primal Potential with you today! Primal Potential is a podcast all about you — your ability to change is not defined by yesterday and doesn’t need to wait until tomorrow. Your transformation is now, no matter what stage you find yourself in life!

Thank you so much for joining me on this special Tuesday edition of the podcast! If you’re wondering why I uploaded an episode on a Tuesday — last night, I led a workshop with some of the people on my waitlist for my summer 12 Weeks to Transformation program. We talked about some excellent stuff last night that I wanted to share with you all as quickly as possible! So, since I couldn’t rearrange my schedule this week, you’re just getting an extra episode!

A few weeks ago, I emailed the people on my waitlist for the 12 Weeks to Transformation program and asked them two questions:

  1. What is standing between you and what you want?
  2. What can I do to help?

And I got some amazing responses! And in the workshop, we took some time to talk about them. We talked through several problems that people have, and we also discussed the reasons why they feel their goals are unattainable.

But here’s the thing: while the people who wrote to me had a variety of issues they wanted to bring up, I think it all boils down to just one problem. The reason why you may feel you’ll never reach your goal and be the person you want to be is not that you don’t have the right plan.

It’s not that you don’t know what to do to solve your problem and transform your life. It’s that you’re committed to the wrong perspective.

In my business — and specifically my 12 Weeks to Transformation program — I am not just a problem solver. I’m not here to help you count calories or budget your money or get a promotion at work. I’m here to help you change your perspective.

So today, I want to share with you my core belief around personal transformation. I want to show you that your problem is not your problem, it’s your perspective around the problem. I want to empower you to shift your mindset and learn to see yourself from a new angle. And I want to encourage you to seek some quality coaching to encourage you and guide you toward your goals.

If you couldn’t tell, I am passionate about serving my clients. I want to help you genuinely transform your life. I’m not just running a weight loss program. I’m here to help you live a life of freedom, joy, and abundance. So if you’re ready to learn how to change your perspective and start living the life you really want, dive into this episode with me!

The Problem: What Story Are You Telling Yourself?

What story are you telling yourself? What reasons do you give yourself for not showing up and pursuing your goals?

When I sent out that survey I mentioned, I got many varied responses to that first question. Some people wrote back to tell me they don’t have enough time. For some people, the issue is money. People talked about stress, insecurity, and past patterns. Other people talked about their emotions, laziness, and even the fear that they won’t know what to do if they actually succeed.

There are a million things that can hold us back from working on ourselves and striving toward our goals. What’s holding you back? I can tell you that for me, the issue was food. For years I thought I had a food problem. I felt like food was the one thing that was holding me back from living a life of freedom and abundance.

What’s holding you back? What story are you telling yourself? Is it, “Well, I’m just a fat girl. I’m really good at losing weight, but I’m terrible at keeping it off, so I’ll never have the body I want.”? Is it, “My job sucks, I’m busy with the kids, and I’m just way too stressed out right now.”?

Whatever story you’re telling yourself, I want you to know this: That story is not the only story. That perspective is not the only perspective. It’s just the perspective you’re committed to right now.

So often we hold onto limiting thoughts like the ones I’ve mentioned. We tell ourselves that we have any number of problems, but the real problem is that we keep telling ourselves that same negative story!

Here’s the thing: I could go through each one of those issues and explain some simple solutions. I could tell you how to count calories. I could teach you how to save money. I could encourage you to practice self-care and try to eliminate stress from your life. But that’s no fun for you or for me! None of those things are going to change the way you think. They won’t help you genuinely transform and change the old story you’re telling yourself.

Instead, I want to help you tell a new story.

The Solution: Don’t Park at the Point of Your Pain

If there’s one thing you take away from this episode, please let it be this: Your problem is not your problem. Your problem is your perspective. And if your problem is your perspective, you can solve that by shifting your mindset.

If you’ve been identifying with what I’ve been saying so far, I want to encourage you — you can change the story you tell yourself. You can strip away the problematic perspectives and excuses you’ve been using and transform your life for good.

I was discussing this with a friend of mine who also does coaching work, and she gave me an expression I really love. She often tells her clients, “Don’t park at the point of your pain.” Don’t just stop behind your struggle. If you continue to tell yourself the same old story, you’ll never be free of your struggle! But if you change the story, you’ll free yourself from that pain.

Choose not to park at the place of your pain today.

For a long time, I stayed parked at the place of my pain. As I mentioned before, I used to believe I had a food problem. I told myself I was overweight and would always be overweight. I told myself I just had a terrible relationship with food, and I was a stress eater, and that would never change.

But then I shifted my perspective. I stripped away those stories I was telling myself, and suddenly I started to see all the other perspectives that were always available to me. I learned that my problem wasn’t food. My problem was that I was using stress and lack of time and my emotions and fears and lack of self-esteem as excuses for making unhealthy food choices. But once I stripped those things away, I started to see that I could truly take care of myself and grow into a strong woman I could be proud of.

That’s why I say this: My weight loss is the smallest part of my transformation. I used to weigh over 350 pounds, and getting down to a healthy weight is the smallest part of the change I’ve undergone in the last several years.

The real change happened to my perspective — and that change is priceless.

Coaching Is Key

If you want to strip away the false narratives you’ve been telling yourself, change your perspective, and transform your life, I want you to know that coaching is essential.

That’s why I have coaches! I’ll be transparent with you all — so far this year, I’ve spent about $60,000 on coaching. That’s how important it is to me! And I’ll be honest, I spent $40,000 on one of my coaches, and I don’t get nearly as much coaching from him as my clients do from me. And that’s okay — I still get good value from working with him, and it’s my choice to spend that much on coaching for me and my business. But that’s exactly why I spend that much.

If money is a concern for you, consider the difference between the price of coaching and the value you’re going to get out of it. Think about a coach you’d like to work with. How much do they charge? Okay, once you have a number in mind, ask yourself, “What do I want this person to help me do?” And make a list of your answers. Do you want your coach to help you lose weight? Do you want help overcoming insecurity? Do you need encouragement and accountability as you grow your business?

Once you have a list of things you hope a coach will help you with, ask yourself, “What is the value of those things? What are they worth to me?”

I can tell you that when I was at my heaviest, a coach who was committed to helping me lose weight and gain self-esteem and confidence would have been priceless to me. That would have had six-figure worth to me, at least. If you feel the same way, it’s time to consider finding a coach.

And here’s the deal: I’m never going to try to twist your arm into forcing you to work with me. If my message just doesn’t resonate with you, that’s fine! You might want to seek coaching elsewhere. But if you are resonating with what I’m saying and you want to work with me, then I want to work with you too.

I don’t like to think of coaching as closing a sale. There are other coaches who work that way, and that’s their choice. Honestly, it’s probably a pretty good business model because it creates dependence on the coach, keeping clients coming back and spending more money.

But I’m not just in this business to make money. I’m here to serve. Instead of thinking of coaching as closing a sale, I like to think of it as opening a relationship. I want to take your hand and work with you to overcome your struggles, shift your perspective, and finally reach your goals.

Are You Ready to Change Your Life?

I hope this episode inspired you today! I hope it lit a fire in you to change the story you tell yourself and learn how to transform your life permanently.

If this message resonated with you, and you’re interested in partnering with me on your journey, I want you to get on the waitlist for the next 12 Weeks to Transformation. Guiding my clients through this program is absolutely my passion. In this program, I work with people in a much more personal and structured way to create change. If you’re not sure what to do next, I encourage you to check out 12 Weeks to Transformation and get on that waitlist!

Registration for the summer session closes on July 3rd or whenever the spots are filled. I don’t know which would happen first! And I promise you I’m not just saying that as a marketing tool. The truth is, I know I can’t effectively serve any of my clients when I have too many. So, I have to limit the number of spots in every 12 Weeks to Transformation session. And the reality is that sometimes those seats fill up before the deadline, and that’s great! But it means you need to get on that waitlist as soon as possible if you’re interested.

Join the 12 WT!

And keep in mind, this program only costs $1,497. That’s 16 dollars a day for 90 days. Not $16 a day for the rest of your life, just three months! And if you need to, we can split it into three payments.

Think back to the differences between price and value I talked about earlier. What’s holding you back? Is it worth $1,497 to overcome those things? If it is, then I would strongly encourage you to get on that waitlist.

Thanks, everyone! I’m so glad you chose to join me today, and I’m looking forward to partnering with some of you on your transformation journey. Now get out there and use your time to create the life you want to live!
