You can create success after struggle. Don’t let fear of failure or past experiences get in your way! Dozens of people have reached out to me this week expressing doubt in themselves.
They don’t want to invest in the 12 Weeks to Transformation only to give up or drift again.
They’re questioning whether or not this can be different.
When I ask people what they want or need, they almost always lead with the past, the story and the struggle.
On today’s Q&A episode of the podcast we’re answering all your questions along that theme: quitting, drifting, fear…all of it!

Okay, you guys, I am really excited to share this episode with you. This is a special one, and I know I will remember it as one of my all-time favorite episodes.
Last night I hosted a free webinar. I shared the three biggest barriers that I had to overcome to transform my life in the hopes that other people would be encouraged and inspired by my journey to overcome their own barriers. And let me tell you, it was a powerful conversation — one of the most powerful I’ve had in a long time. In fact, I wasn’t going to release this episode until a little bit later, but because this conversation was so impactful, I switched some things around in my schedule to bring it to you as soon as possible.
For many years I struggled with my weight. At my heaviest, I weighed over 350 pounds. I felt so much shame and fear about my weight, but here’s the thing: I didn’t have a food issue. My problem was not that I was using food to cope with stress and unhappiness. My problem was that I wasn’t doing the deep inner work I needed to do to understand my choices around food and start making healthier decisions.
But once I gained that awareness about myself, my world opened up. I stopped like in one tiny corner of my world and allowed myself to grow. I finally admitted to myself that I wasn’t stuck; I had just stopped trying to improve myself and my life. And I found and continue to find so much freedom in that.
I think that after you listen to this episode, you will have a lot more clarity, fire, and determination. You can set yourself free. I did it, and if I could do it, you can do it too. Whatever you need to overcome, whatever you’re struggling with, you can move past it. You can transform your life. So let’s dive into the three major things I had to overcome to transform my life:
#1: The Barrier of Tomorrow
The first barrier that held me back from transforming my life for a long time was “tomorrow.”
Let me explain: I constantly used “I’ll do it tomorrow” as a reason not to make a good choice today. I was motivated. I knew what I needed to do. But I would make any excuse to push it off to tomorrow. I was using the future as a weapon against my present. I was using it as a cop-out, as a handy little card that I would play to let myself off the hook and feel better.
Have you ever done this? Have you ever just said, “I’ll start that diet tomorrow,” or, “I’ll go over my budget tomorrow,” or, “I’ll spend more time with my spouse tomorrow”? It’s an incredibly easy and useful way to avoid making the healthy decision that feels difficult today.
But is that how you want to be? It wasn’t how I wanted to be. I wouldn’t accept the kind of exception from anyone else. If someone came into my office today and said, “Oh yeah, I was going to do that, but then I didn’t feel like it. I’ll do that tomorrow!” I wouldn’t accept that. So why was I accepting that from myself?
I decided to stop letting myself off the hook. Because this isn’t about just another cupcake. This isn’t about just another hundred dollars on the credit card. This is about one life. I stopped accepting “I’ll do it tomorrow” and started making healthier choices each day.
Please take note, by the way: it starts with awareness. I could not have turned my life around and figured out how to make healthier food choices for me and my body if I hadn’t first realized that I was using “tomorrow” as a reason not to do something healthy today. So I want you to take some time to ask yourself, “What are my defenses?” What are you saying to yourself to let yourself off the hook and stop making progress?
Remember: you are not stuck. You just stopped. Why did you stop? This all hinges on awareness. When you become aware of your defensives, excuses, and negative thought patterns, you gain the power to change your thinking. And that allows you to change your life.
#2: The Barrier of Looking For a Way Out
The second major barrier I had to overcome is similar to the first, but there’s a critical distinction between them. The first barrier was using “I’ll do it later” as an excuse not to make a healthy choice in the present. This barrier takes that a step further. Instead of pushing my healthy decisions off into the future, I would also push them off and decide not to make them at all.
And seriously, I became ninja-level good at this. I would use anything as an excuse to eat food I knew I shouldn’t have been eating. It was like a magic trick! I would say, “I’m too busy,” “Work was stressful,” or, “I’ve always been overweight anyway. What’s the point?”
I would even use positive occasions as excuses. If something good happened at work, I could treat myself to a drink that night. If I was celebrating someone’s birthday, of course I would get appetizers and dessert — it was a celebration!
Do you see the pattern here? I spent a lot of time pulling excuses out of thin air and preventing myself from making changes in my lifestyle.
But as with my first barrier, eventually I developed an awareness of my tendency to do that. And that allowed me to change my behavior.
Instead of making excuses, I would ask myself, “How can I have everything I want right now?” Because the truth is there were times I was stressed and needed to pamper myself and there were times I really wanted to celebrate something in addition to wanting to make a healthy choice. So I would ask, “how can I have everything I want?” And the truth is, sometimes I just couldn’t. Sometimes you can’t have everything you want. But sometimes there’s room for compromise, and that’s how you find ways to make changes you can commit to.
Here’s a good example. Sometimes I would recognize that I needed to work out, but, of course, I always had a million excuses ready. “I’m too tired.” “I don’t want to drive to the gym.” “I don’t want to sweat right now.” Okay, so in that situation, I would ask myself, “how can I have everything I want?” Well, I could go for a walk. That way, I don’t have to drive anywhere, and I don’t have to sweat, but I’m still getting some exercise.
Always looking to do that level-10 perfect thing isn’t necessary to make progress. Going for a walk may not give me as much exercise as a workout at the gym, but it’s better than sitting on my butt and probably eating more ice cream. So find ways to make healthy choices and make yourself happy. That way, you don’t have to make excuses. You only have to make small changes and look forward to seeing results.
#3: The Barrier of Commitment
The final barrier I had to overcome to truly transform my life was a little bit different and a lot bigger than the other two. The other two were relatively simple — I needed to gain awareness of my defenses and excuses so I could start practicing and repeating healthier choices. But this third barrier was different. I needed to ask myself, “How committed am I to practicing this new response versus submitting to the old one?”
For a long time, I would tell myself, “This is just the way it is.” I had always been overweight, so I assumed I would always be overweight. I had debt, but that’s because that’s what happens when you have a mortgage and student loans. I would never have the body I wanted, never be out of debt, never have the healthiest marriage, etc. I convinced myself that I was either indulging in behaviors that ultimately didn’t make me happy or somehow missing out on opportunities to connect with other people.
I put up so many walls and boxed myself into narrow spaces in my mind that just didn’t need to be so small! But the stories I told myself just weren’t true. The truth is, the more disciplined I am in my life, the more free and connected I am. I’ve seen this in myself, and I see it in my clients all the time. One of the things I hear often is, “I’m great at losing weight, but I’m terrible at keeping it off.” If you’re telling yourself that story, I want to encourage you to stop! It doesn’t have to be true, and by repeating the same negative thought to yourself, you are reinforcing a pattern that makes you feel confined.
You can change the story. There is a bigger life. There is a better life. There is more happiness, freedom, health, and wealth available to you if you choose to commit to changing the narrative in your head.
One of the greatest pieces of advice I have received came from my business coach. He said to me, “If you want to double your business, triple your growth.” And he didn’t mean to triple the size of my business or the number of employees or the amount of money I make. He meant that I needed to triple my personal growth. If I’m going to make strides and grow my business, I need my personal growth to exceed that. I need to commit to continually transforming into the best version of myself I can be so that I can be healthy, happy, and successful in my business and in my life.
Our Goal Is To Grow
I’m going to repeat myself here, but I think this is important to remember: You are not stuck. You’ve just stopped. And remember, our goal is not perfection. Our goal is to grow. Our goal is to transform.
That’s why coaches are so useful. Having somebody in your life who is there to motivate you and help you keep your commitment to identifying your negative habits and changing your behavior is priceless. I hope I always have coaches in my life, and I hope you’ll consider finding coaches too.
There are a ton of good coaches out there, but I would love to work with you myself! If you’d like some extra support, a little more coaching, and accountability, I want you to get on the waitlist for our next 12 Weeks of Transformation! Thank you so much for joining me on this special Tuesday edition of the podcast! If you’re wondering why I uploaded an episode on a Tuesday — last night, I led a workshop with some of the people on my waitlist for my summer 12 Weeks to Transformation program. We talked about some excellent stuff last night that I wanted to share with you all as quickly as possible! So, since I couldn’t rearrange my schedule this week, you’re just getting an extra episode!
A few weeks ago, I emailed the people on my waitlist for the 12 Weeks to Transformation program and asked them two questions:
- What is standing between you and what you want?
- What can I do to help?
And I got some amazing responses! And in the workshop, we took some time to talk about them. We talked through several problems that people have, and we also discussed the reasons why they feel their goals are unattainable.
But here’s the thing: while the people who wrote to me had a variety of issues they wanted to bring up, I think it all boils down to just one problem. The reason why you may feel you’ll never reach your goal and be the person you want to be is not that you don’t have the right plan.
It’s not that you don’t know what to do to solve your problem and transform your life. It’s that you’re committed to the wrong perspective.
In my business — and specifically my 12 Weeks to Transformation program — I am not just a problem solver. I’m not here to help you count calories or budget your money or get a promotion at work. I’m here to help you change your perspective.
So today, I want to share with you my core belief around personal transformation. I want to show you that your problem is not your problem, it’s your perspective around the problem. I want to empower you to shift your mindset and learn to see yourself from a new angle. And I want to encourage you to seek some quality coaching to encourage you and guide you toward your goals.
If you couldn’t tell, I am passionate about serving my clients. I want to help you genuinely transform your life. I’m not just running a weight loss program. I’m here to help you live a life of freedom, joy, and abundance. So if you’re ready to learn how to change your perspective and start living the life you really want, dive into this episode with me!
The Problem: What Story Are You Telling Yourself?
What story are you telling yourself? What reasons do you give yourself for not showing up and pursuing your goals?
When I sent out that survey I mentioned, I got many varied responses to that first question. Some people wrote back to tell me they don’t have enough time. For some people, the issue is money. People talked about stress, insecurity, and past patterns. Other people talked about their emotions, laziness, and even the fear that they won’t know what to do if they actually succeed.
There are a million things that can hold us back from working on ourselves and striving toward our goals. What’s holding you back? I can tell you that for me, the issue was food. For years I thought I had a food problem. I felt like food was the one thing that was holding me back from living a life of freedom and abundance.
What’s holding you back? What story are you telling yourself? Is it, “Well, I’m just a fat girl. I’m really good at losing weight, but I’m terrible at keeping it off, so I’ll never have the body I want.”? Is it, “My job sucks, I’m busy with the kids, and I’m just way too stressed out right now.”?
Whatever story you’re telling yourself, I want you to know this: That story is not the only story. That perspective is not the only perspective. It’s just the perspective you’re committed to right now.
So often we hold onto limiting thoughts like the ones I’ve mentioned. We tell ourselves that we have any number of problems, but the real problem is that we keep telling ourselves that same negative story!
Here’s the thing: I could go through each one of those issues and explain some simple solutions. I could tell you how to count calories. I could teach you how to save money. I could encourage you to practice self-care and try to eliminate stress from your life. But that’s no fun for you or for me! None of those things are going to change the way you think. They won’t help you genuinely transform and change the old story you’re telling yourself.
Instead, I want to help you tell a new story.
The Solution: Don’t Park at the Point of Your Pain
If there’s one thing you take away from this episode, please let it be this: Your problem is not your problem. Your problem is your perspective. And if your problem is your perspective, you can solve that by shifting your mindset.
If you’ve been identifying with what I’ve been saying so far, I want to encourage you — you can change the story you tell yourself. You can strip away the problematic perspectives and excuses you’ve been using and transform your life for good.
I was discussing this with a friend of mine who also does coaching work, and she gave me an expression I really love. She often tells her clients, “Don’t park at the point of your pain.” Don’t just stop behind your struggle. If you continue to tell yourself the same old story, you’ll never be free of your struggle! But if you change the story, you’ll free yourself from that pain.
Choose not to park at the place of your pain today.
For a long time, I stayed parked at the place of my pain. As I mentioned before, I used to believe I had a food problem. I told myself I was overweight and would always be overweight. I told myself I just had a terrible relationship with food, and I was a stress eater, and that would never change.
But then I shifted my perspective. I stripped away those stories I was telling myself, and suddenly I started to see all the other perspectives that were always available to me. I learned that my problem wasn’t food. My problem was that I was using stress and lack of time and my emotions and fears and lack of self-esteem as excuses for making unhealthy food choices. But once I stripped those things away, I started to see that I could truly take care of myself and grow into a strong woman I could be proud of.
That’s why I say this: My weight loss is the smallest part of my transformation. I used to weigh over 350 pounds, and getting down to a healthy weight is the smallest part of the change I’ve undergone in the last several years.
The real change happened to my perspective — and that change is priceless.
Coaching Is Key
If you want to strip away the false narratives you’ve been telling yourself, change your perspective, and transform your life, I want you to know that coaching is essential.
That’s why I have coaches! I’ll be transparent with you all — so far this year, I’ve spent about $60,000 on coaching. That’s how important it is to me! And I’ll be honest, I spent $40,000 on one of my coaches, and I don’t get nearly as much coaching from him as my clients do from me. And that’s okay — I still get good value from working with him, and it’s my choice to spend that much on coaching for me and my business. But that’s exactly why I spend that much.
If money is a concern for you, consider the difference between the price of coaching and the value you’re going to get out of it. Think about a coach you’d like to work with. How much do they charge? Okay, once you have a number in mind, ask yourself, “What do I want this person to help me do?” And make a list of your answers. Do you want your coach to help you lose weight? Do you want help overcoming insecurity? Do you need encouragement and accountability as you grow your business?
Once you have a list of things you hope a coach will help you with, ask yourself, “What is the value of those things? What are they worth to me?”
I can tell you that when I was at my heaviest, a coach who was committed to helping me lose weight and gain self-esteem and confidence would have been priceless to me. That would have had six-figure worth to me, at least. If you feel the same way, it’s time to consider finding a coach.
And here’s the deal: I’m never going to try to twist your arm into forcing you to work with me. If my message just doesn’t resonate with you, that’s fine! You might want to seek coaching elsewhere. But if you are resonating with what I’m saying and you want to work with me, then I want to work with you too.
I don’t like to think of coaching as closing a sale. There are other coaches who work that way, and that’s their choice. Honestly, it’s probably a pretty good business model because it creates dependence on the coach, keeping clients coming back and spending more money.
But I’m not just in this business to make money. I’m here to serve. Instead of thinking of coaching as closing a sale, I like to think of it as opening a relationship. I want to take your hand and work with you to overcome your struggles, shift your perspective, and finally reach your goals.
Are You Ready to Change Your Life?
I hope this episode inspired you today! I hope it lit a fire in you to change the story you tell yourself and learn how to transform your life permanently.
If this message resonated with you, and you’re interested in partnering with me on your journey, I want you to get on the waitlist for the next 12 Weeks to Transformation. Guiding my clients through this program is absolutely my passion. In this program, I work with people in a much more personal and structured way to create change. I will help you tackle your excuses head-on and find the core values that will motivate you to take action. If you’re not sure what to do next, I encourage you to check out 12 Weeks to Transformation and get on that waitlist!
Registration for the summer session closes on July 3rd or whenever the spots are filled. I don’t know which would happen first! And I promise you I’m not just saying that as a marketing tool. The truth is, I know I can’t effectively serve any of my clients when I have too many. So, I have to limit the number of spots in every 12 Weeks to Transformation session. And the reality is that sometimes those seats fill up before the deadline, and that’s great! But it means you need to get on that waitlist as soon as possible if you’re interested.
Join the 12 WT!
And keep in mind, this program only costs $1,497. That’s 16 dollars a day for 90 days. Not $16 a day for the rest of your life, just three months! And if you need to, we can split it into three payments.
Think back to the differences between price and value I talked about earlier. What’s holding you back? Is it worth $1,497 to overcome those things? If it is, then I would strongly encourage you to get on that waitlist.
Thanks, everyone! I’m so glad you chose to join me today, and I’m looking forward to partnering with some of you on your transformation journey. Now get out there and use your time to create the life you want to live!

Do you struggle with not wanting to miss out? Do vacations, travel or evenings out get you worried about that line between deprivation and over-indulgence?
Travel used to be a total train wreck for me. I was constantly worried about food. I worried about eating too much. I stressed about not enjoying things enough and feeling like I was on the sidelines, deprived.
I really saw it as either/or – either I indulge and feel frustrated with myself, or I don’t and I feel like I’m missing out and deprived.
Last week, I took a vacation in Bermuda. I shared a lot of pictures in my Instagram stories and posted daily recaps in our private (free) Primal Potential FB group. Today, I’m sharing the mindsets and strategies I employed to ensure that I didn’t ever miss out AND I felt amazing every single day! You never have to feel like you’re missing out again AND you don’t have to return feeling like you “blew it”.
